A calm, confident midlife woman embracing clarity, truth, and empowerment during the transition through perimenopause.

Can you get pregnant during perimenopause?
Perimenopause is not menopause — and yes, pregnancy is still possible during this transition. This is contrary to the common perimenopause pregnancy myth. Your hormones fluctuate wildly, which means ovulation can still occur even when your cycles seem irregular, lighter, or months apart.

Why?

  • Because ovulation becomes unpredictable, many women wonder, “can you get pregnant during perimenopause?” — and the answer is yes.
  • Missed periods don’t always mean menopause — sometimes they’re just hormonal swings.
  • Fertility declines, but doesn’t hit zero until 12 months after your final period.

🔍Signs You May Still Be Ovulating: Can You Get Pregnant During Perimenopause?

  • Sudden increase in cervical mucus
  • Mid-cycle cramping
  • PMS-like symptoms
  • Tender breasts
  • Temperature shifts

If you don’t want to become pregnant, you still need contraception during perimenopause — even if you’re 48, 50, or think you’re “close enough.”

🌍 Perimenopause and Pregnancy: No One Demographic Is Affected More Than Another

Biologically, all women can ovulate unpredictably during this transition, regardless of race or ethnicity. What does vary is access to care, education, and contraception—factors that make unintended pregnancy more common in communities where menopause myths are widespread or gynecologic care is limited. But the biological possibility is universal.
